We are incredibly excited to announce the First Binance Smart Chain Hackathon for Africa!
Earlier this year, our 8-week developer masterclass series saw participants acquiring in-depth blockchain knowledge and building top projects on the Binance Smart Chain.
Following this, we will hold a DeFi & NFT hackathon from June 7th to June 28th, 2021. The 20-day hackathon, co-hosted by Bundle, a social payments app for crypto, will empower blockchain engineers to rapidly build blockchain solutions on the Binance Smart Chain in order to solve real problems identified in the African systems in place today.
The Hackathon theme, “Decentralized Africa”, is dedicated to the development of DeFi, NFT projects covering Savings, Lending and Borrowing, Swaps, Royalties and Renting, Elections, Identity Management, Land Ownership, NFTs marketplaces amongst other relevant areas with a total Prize pool of $30,000+
Our total prize pool of $30,000+ will comprise:
$10,000 provided by the Binance Smart Chain Investment team
$20,000 constituting the “judges pick '' category which will be allocated to outstanding projects that will impact the DeFi, NFTs, and “Africa Hero” space . This is made possible by our partners: Bundle Mobox, Refinable, Quidax, Fortube, 1inch
Limited exclusive NFTs.
Each user will have the opportunity to support their favorite project! The Binance Smart Chain investment team supports projects and ideas at an early stage. This hackathon will allow both individual participants and organizations to participate in the financing of developer projects. All participants will be able to present their projects on the platform of developers DoraHacks HackerLink.io and get a chance to compete for the main prize pool + additional prize fund from the community and sponsors!

The main aim of this hackathon is to build, experiment, and push forward the frontier of possibilities with NFTs and DeFi. It will consist of workshops, AMA sessions, webinars, daily lucky draws, and conclude with a demo day showcase.
Voting/Funding Mechanism
There will be four (4) funding sources...
Matching pool: $10,000+ provided by Binance Smart Chain Investment team
In the case of a matching pool, we will use a quadratic funding algorithm and the distribution of this pool will be determined by quadratic voting results from community contributors. Therefore, all community contributors will have a direct impact on the allocation of the $10, 000 prize pool.
Community Donation: Each community member can donate to any project(s) they like using their own wallets. It will be conducted on Hackerlink's hackathon page, where you can click «Vote» following selected projects and their votes will eventually determine how the sponsor pool gets distributed.
Everyone can use BNB to vote for projects and teams they like. The BNBs will be directly donated to the projects. 0.0001BNB for your first vote.
Judges Pick: The Judges Pick will allocate $20,000 to outstanding projects that will impact the DeFi, NFTs, and “Africa Hero” space.
Open Prize: The open Prize is specifically for BSC Projects that will be tasked to solve existing challenges. The scope of challenge to solve, process and prizes will be defined to all developers. If the community of developers completes the challenge, they will be awarded the set Prizes.
In addition, on June 6, 5 PM WAT/ 6 PM SAST/ 7 PM EAT, there will be an opening ceremony where the organisers will give in-depth information about the hackathon and answer frequently asked questions from participants.

Who can participate: All developers, builders, and creators from Africa (hackathon is open to both beginners and non-beginners)
How to participate in the hackathon: Join the Telegram group here and sign up through the Hackerlink special landing page where all hackathon projects will be submitted.
What to expect: All DeFi and NFT projects will be built on the Binance Smart Chain and made completely open source. Participants will build cool solutions that will potentially solve some of the real problems facing Africa. Some examples of areas to cover include: Savings, Lending and Borrowing, Swaps, Royalties and Renting, Elections, Identity Management, Land Ownership, NFTs marketplaces amongst other relevant areas.
